NickServ Set MailBlock

AvadeNET IRC Services is there to put control of the network and acts as the spider in the web on AvadeNET, this means your and others passwords are stored securely in services. However AvadeNET offers the option of mailing your password to you if you forgot it. If you think you will never forget your password you could enable the MailBlock feature on your nickname. This feature will make abusing you by stealing nicks or chans from you even harder.

Before considering to activate this option you should literally write down your password on a piece of paper and store that paper in a safe location and ofcourse not share your password with anyone. A less fun fact is that peoples nicks or chans are most commonly taken over by friends of the original owner so please dont share any passwords with anyone not even your best friends, many real life friendships has ended on IRC.

Now after we gone through abit of password security we can go back and focus on the actual feature.

The MailBlock will not let you send your password to your email which is a nice setting to set if you dont have complete faith and trust in your email provider or if you keep login to that email account through a variety of public computers from school or internet cafes or even from a shared LAN/internet line. The history behind this option is not from AvadeNET however other nets has had some incidents of their users losing control of their mailaccounts which has ended with them losing their nicks and channels through the SENDPASS feature.

To activate the MailBlock feature on your nickname and remove the option of using SENDPASS on your nicks or channels you simply type like this:

 /nickserv SET MAILBLOCK ON
