Recover Ghosted Nickname

Ghosts on IRC is not real clients, its users that are left after a real client made an incorrect disconnection, with other words the users IRC client was unsuccessful of delivering a proper quit to the server, making the server think the user is still there.

How the server does to find and remove those ghost users are simply by sending them a ping and if after a certain amount of time there are no reply the server will disconnect the user.

If you your nickname is being held by a ghost you can use services to recover it simply by issuing:

 /NickServ RECOVER Nick Password

NOTE: Services will hold the nick for a certain amount of time and to make services release the nick before it automatically releases it you can type:

 /NickServ RELEASE Nick Password
