Regaining Control of a Channel

Having a channel on AvadeNET means you have a responsibility to pick the correct staff for your channel and not op(@) users who you do not know and could make a mess for you or your users. If you oped(@) someone that is making a mess in your channel like banning you and kicking you out its fairly simple to regain control, however if you havent tried it before it could be somewhat a pickle and you could get angry and in a state of panic.

Well theres no reason to get angry or panic, just follow the instructions below and everything will be just fine.

These following instructions are adequate if we assume that you have higher access to the channel than the user who banned you.

At first this experience is gonna feel a little wierd but you are actually gonna need to instruct chanserv to perform tasks while you arent inside the channel, so you might feel a little blind but thats perfectly normal.

Start with checking what access the user who banned you had like this:

/chanserv WHY #chan nick

If the nick actually has AOP+ access to the channel he will be able to perform the same commands you perform to regain the control of the channel so its advisable to remove the access the user has before proceeding with the next command, so if we assume the nick has AutoOP access to the channel you can type the following to remove his access:

/chanserv AOP #chan DEL nick

After this the nick will have no access please check again with the WHY command so that the nick has no access to the channel. After the nicks have been removed from the access list the user will still be oped in the channel so what you need to do is to remove the users op(@) by issuing the following command:

/chanserv DEOP #chan nick

After this the threat is unarmed and not capable to do any more damage. The next command will unban you in the channel making you able to join for the first time since he kicked you out:

/chanserv UNBAN #chan

If you are still unable to join the channel, it might be some channel modes that restricts you to join the channel. If this is the case just invite yourself into the channel through chanserv like this:

/chanserv INVITE #chan

The invite command will make you able to join over any channelmode still restricting the channel, so you will be able to join the channel.

The channel will be all in your control again and remember not to op(@) users you do not know. also remember to remove those channel modes that are restricting the channel.
